Corruption net turns "Marib passports" into a black market

A civilian Jabr Saber was attacked by the Assistant Officer of Passports Authority Guard the officer Basheer Hajar in Marib province.

The incident took place in Marib while Jabr Saber, including his 13-year-old girl and his 7-year-old baby-girl at the Authority to receive passports.

The civilian Jabr Saber complained to the Interior Minister on Sunday Jan. 06.

 “The attacker, Basheer Hajar, intended to attack me but his colleagues prevented him, both of us, me and my kids, 13-year-old daughter who was cuddling the baby child were shocked and caused us panic. My daughter continued to cry for a long time because of fear of the attack. The attack happened at front of civilians without taking into account the presence of my daughters".

Mr. Saber said in his letter to the minister that some security officers who guard the Authority became" rifles, sticks, feet and palms" attacks for those who came to get their passports or documents under the pretext of Law or to be staying in rows, this is not approved by law or custom.   

Queues get longer and longer, people suffer a lot, people travel from provinces to reach Marib passing on various and several obstacles, risks at security checkpoints to obtain a passport,

Another citizen said to Newsyemen that we could not get a passport for a week after dealing it at the Authority for two-week because of the crowded of the people.

A source revealed to Newsyemen that the bad behavior at the Passport Authority amid enforcing the civilians to pay a lot of money so as to get one passport between Y.R 70,000 to Y.R 100,000, while the governmental fees do not exceed Y.R 10,000 (only).

The source said: "The citizen needs Y.R 50,000 per a day, the cost of renting at a hotel per day not less than Y.R 10,000, If passports are delayed for twenty days, the cost will be a million, pointing out that the majority of the civilians come from outside the province of Marib, especially from Sana'a.
