The Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced its support for the Yemeni government's decision to accept the United Nations Secretary-General's call for a ceasefire in Yemen to confront the Corona virus (Covid-19).

"The leadership of the coalition forces supports the decision of the Yemeni government to accept the call of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for a ceasefire in Yemen and to face the consequences of the spread of the Coronavirus," Colonel Turki al-Maliki said.

"The leadership of the coalition's joint forces supports the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen to stop the ceasefire, reduce the escalation, take practical steps to build confidence between the two parties in the humanitarian and economic aspect, alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and work hard to confront the pandemic risks of the Coronavirus and prevent spreading. "

Earlier Wednesday evening, the legitimate Yemeni government welcomed the United Nations Secretary-General's call for a ceasefire, to face the consequences of the spread of the Coronavirus and to reduce the escalation in the country as a whole, as well as the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Martin Grift, to restore calm and face the military escalation.

The government said, in a statement published by the official Saba agency, that the political, economic and health situation in Yemen requires stopping all forms of escalation, and standing within the global and humanitarian effort to preserve the lives of citizens and deal with all responsibility for this epidemic.

In the statement, the legitimacy government asserted that it will deal positively with the international efforts to restore the state and stop the Yemeni bloodshed, expressing its willingness to engage in order to work seriously to confront the dangers of this epidemic and prevent it from spreading inside Yemeni lands.

The Houthi militia for their part also welcomed, through the president of the so-called “Supreme Political Council,” Mahdi Al-Mashat, the calls and efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and his special envoy aimed at ending the war in Yemen, affirming his group’s full readiness to open up to all efforts and initiatives, within the framework of a comprehensive and real calm that affects the people.  It builds confidence and leads to an atmosphere conducive to the success of a comprehensive political solution.

But the Houthi leader added, in a speech broadcast by the Saba agency in Sana'a, which is under the control of the militia, saying, "We reserve the right to respond according to the options of the stages and what we see as appropriate towards any continuation of the blockade or air strikes, or continue to take any land or area as a starting point for hostilities against our armed forces or to cut off citizens."  ... which reflects a premeditated intention to undermine the ceasefire by the coup militia.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, called on Wednesday, the parties to the conflict in  Yemen, to stop immediately all hostilities and focus on facing the threat posed by the potential spread of the emerging coronavirus (Covid_19).

The Secretary-General of the United Nations encouraged the parties in Yemen to work with his special envoy, Martin Griffiths, to reduce the escalation at the country level and achieve progress in humanitarian and economic measures that would reduce the suffering of the Yemenis and build confidence between the parties, and resume a political process led by Yemen that includes everyone .. stressing in conclusion, the political solution is the only way to a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the conflict in Yemen.
