900 civilians were killed and injured by Houthi mines in Al-Jawf in 3 years

A recent official statistic reported that more than 900 civilians, including women and children, were killed and injured by mines and explosive devices, planted by the Houthi militia, in Al-Jawf Governorate, northeastern Yemen, in less than three years.

The Rights and Media Committee said, in a recent report, that mines and explosive devices planted by the Houthi militia caused the death and injury of 910 people, including women and children, in Al-Jawf during the period from October 2018 to August 2021.

The committee stated that it had documented 282 cases of damage and material losses due to Houthi mines, of which 25 houses, 49 farms and 97 cars and vehicles were damaged.

The report said that the total number of mines and explosives of all kinds that the Commission found in Al-Jawf is 30,000, according to estimates by experts at the National Mine Action Center and the Masam Center for Demining in Yemen.

He pointed out that thousands of those mines and explosives are still underground and threaten the lives of thousands of civilians in the governorate.
