Sana'a, NewsYemen, private:

The terrorist Houthi militia, Iran's arm in Yemen, has surrounded the house and office of a lawyer in the capital, Sanaa.

Local sources told NewsYemen that Houthi gunmen on board military crews surrounded the office and home of lawyer Abdul Basit Ghazi, head of the detainees' defense committee, in the Tahrir neighborhood on Monday evening, May 23, 2022.

It added that lawyer Ghazi was subjected to threats and calls from numbers belonging to the Al-Olfi Police Department, before his home and office were besieged.

The sources suggested that the threat and besieging of the lawyer came on the background of receiving from the prosecution a copy of the case files of the journalists and his clients accused in the case of the murder of the former youth minister, Hassan Zaid, the Secretary-General of the Al-Haq Party, who was assassinated in his car in October 2020 south of Sanaa, which is under the control of the Houthi militia.

In this context, the Yemeni Bar Association condemned, in a statement, "such reckless practices carried out by the Al-Alfi Police Department."

The statement stressed that besieging the office of fellow lawyer Abdul Basit Ghazi at night is not sanctioned by the constitution and the law that prohibits the announcement, assignment or arrest of a citizen after six in the evening and before six in the morning, whether he is a lawyer or a citizen.

The statement called on all parties to abide by the law, stressing that delinquency from the provisions of the law and the constitution is a crime in itself, and indicated that the law prevents besieging or storming a lawyer’s office except by a judicial order and in the presence of a representative of the Bar Association, and the law also prevents security services and police departments from investigating a lawyer or arresting  him or even his request, except through the Public Prosecution directly and through the Syndicate.

Observers believe that the militias' movements confirm day after day that they do not care about the constitution and the law and do not deprive the judicial and prosecutorial authorities.
