Taiz, NewsYemen, special:

Despite the Iranian arm’s rejection of all proposals regarding opening the roads in Taiz city to alleviate the suffering of the people, especially with the cessation of military operations under the pretext of the truce, the consultations of Jordan between the legitimacy committees and the Houthis under the auspices of the United Nations returned to discuss what the government committee sources said was a new UN proposal regarding the opening of Taiz roads, it was discussed by the UN envoy to Yemen, with the Houthi delegation in the Omani capital, Muscat, last week.

A source in the government committee, who preferred not to be named, told NewsYemen that the new proposal includes opening a main road in Taiz, and scheduling the opening of the rest of the secondary roads in the governorate and other Yemeni governorates in time, with obtaining military guarantees from both parties not to exploit the opening of those roads  militarily against any party.

The source pointed out that the UN envoy received a green light from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other regional countries to pass the proposal, but stressed that the proposal is considered a form of implementing the Houthi position, saying that it will bring great gains to the Houthis, and it will be imposed and passed by the government side under regional pressure.  As happened with the opening of Sana'a International Airport

He explained that the proposal was discussed by the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, with the Saudi and Gulf sides, and Western ambassadors in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and the Omani capital, Muscat.  It was presented to the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, who affirmed his adherence to the proposal of the former UN envoy, and not to move to any peace or negotiation stages until after the provisions of the UN armistice are fully implemented.

The source stated that the Saudi side and regional countries, including Egypt and Oman, support the envoy's new directions in order to move to a new phase of imposing peace in Yemen, in implementation of international trends in this framework in line with the Iranian-Gulf rapprochement.

He stressed the existence of military consultations between the government side and the militias regarding extending the armistice until the end of this year, as well as protecting it from any acts and violations that threaten its collapse, and that those consultations will continue next week in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

And regarding the existence of a new proposal that is being consulted, the source said that the delegation will deal with any proposal that serves the people of Taiz and alleviate their suffering, pointing out that they in the delegation will not accept any proposal that detracts from the right of civilians in Taiz to have a decent life, through the lifting of the siege.  about them.

Road discussions focus on a road that opens movement between the Houthi and Brotherhood authorities in Taiz, despite the fact that al-Houthi cuts Taiz’s roads toward the western coast in al-Barh, and toward the south in both al-Rahda Aqan and Haifan Tur al-Baha.

The Southern Transitional Council had announced that any understandings regarding the opening of roads with Al-Houthi would not be a partner in it and would not lead to the opening of the closed, besieged southern roads that do not mean the south.

A government source regretted that “the legitimacy, and through its committee formed by the Brotherhood’s authority in Taiz, did not use that position, not even as a matter of strengthening negotiation against international pressures to prevent Houthi service at a cheap price that it offered to the Brotherhood authorities in Taiz.”
