A top Biden aide speaks with the Saudi crown prince about the Yemen war

 White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan discussed, by phone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, developments in the situation in Yemen, especially the ongoing diplomacy to resolve the situation.

The White House said in a statement that Sullivan spoke with the Saudi crown prince and discussed a number of global and regional issues, including the ongoing diplomacy related to ending the war in Yemen.

Sullivan highlighted remarkable progress in Yemen over the past year, where fighting has all but stopped under a UN-brokered truce, and welcomed Saudi Arabia's extraordinary efforts to pursue a more comprehensive roadmap to end the war, offering the United States' full support for these efforts.

He noted that Special Envoy Tim Lenderking will be in the region in the coming days.

Sullivan and Crown Prince Salman also discussed broader trends toward de-escalation in the region, while emphasizing the need to maintain deterrence against threats from Iran and elsewhere.

Mr. Sullivan reaffirmed President Biden's unwavering commitment to ensuring that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.

Sullivan and Crown Prince Salman committed to maintaining regular contact and expediting communication between the Saudi and U.S. national security teams on issues including the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII), clean energy cooperation, development and investment in the latest open wireless access network (O-Ran) 5G and 6G technologies.
