Six people were killed, including a child, on Friday in a blast of an improvised explosive device (IED) in al-Anin roundabout in al-Qattan district in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, a local source said on Friday.

The source added the IED went off at 9: 15 after unknown men placed a barrel carrying a slogan of al-Qaeda on the main road linking the western districts with the Hadramout's eastern districts.

The blast killed three people immediately and injured seven pedestrians, they were rushed to al-Qattan General Hospital, a man died while on their way to the hospital, the eyewitnesses said, and others died of their injuries at the Hospital.

Cars and motorcycles near the scene were burnt due to the blast.

The sources said that residents reported the security authorities over the barrel on the main road before the explosion.

They added the security authorities did not deal with the citizens' reports and failed to perform their duties.

Medical sources said that two of the injured, who were seriously wounded, were transferred into Sayoun General Hospital for treatment.

After being expelled from the Coast, al-Qaeda cells in Hadramout valley resorted to use IEDs to terrorize citizens.

A mine team late January this year lifted a barrel filled with explosives in front of Sada area in the historic city of Shebam in the province.
