Taiz governor directs to close secret prisons in the province

Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan directed on Sunday security services to prepare a list of names and data of hidden people in the province.

During his meeting with representatives of the judiciary, civil society and military and security leaders, the governor puts forward solutions to the process of arbitrary detention and ends the proliferation of secret and unofficial prisons.

Nabil Shamsan said that Taiz province paid an excessive bill for freedom and dignity and it did not accept to work outside the law.

He stressed the keenness of the judiciary and the security services to work together and monitor the prisons.

According to human rights reports, more than 30 people, including activists, have been forcibly hidden for years, some were initially detained by a military unit affiliated with the Islah Party.
