A water crisis is worsening in Taiz province, central Yemen. The crisis reached the lack of drinking water in markets due to a strike of desalination plants to supply shops with water.

Local sources said to Newsyemen that the desalination stations  in the city continue their strike and not to sell pure water after a security checkpoint of the 17th Infantry Brigade imposes royalties on Dynas or trucks enter the city.

According to the sources, the brigade's checkpoint in al-Jabbanah in al-Dhabab area imposed Y.R 2,000 on each Dyna carrying water enter the Taiz, violating the law and directives of the local authority in the province.

In addition, Taiz inhabitants suffer from the increasing value of water allocated for domestic use, whilst government water stations are allocated to security and military commanders.

This is not the only military checkpoint under the control of the Brotherhood Popular Crowd militias, and its checkpoint members deliberately blackmail commercial trucks, transport vehicles and private cars at the entrances to Taiz city.

Newsyemen sources say that the 30th checkpoint of the Brotherhood Popular Crowd adjacent to Hanjar checkpoint, an entrance of south of Taiz, imposes Y.R 5,000 on each public transport bus by force of arms.ش
