The prince of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, was absent from the meetings of the Supreme Council of Leaders of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in its fortieth session today in Riyadh, headed by Saudi King King Salman bin Abdulaziz

The official Qatar News Agency announced that the prince of Qatar has assigned his Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser to head his country's delegation to the summit.

The Saudi monarch had invited the prince of Qatar to participate in the summit, at a time when there are increasing indications about the expected Gulf reconciliation after the statements of the Qatari foreign minister last week about ongoing negotiations with Saudi Arabia to resolve the Gulf crisis that has persisted since 2017.

In 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt announced their boycott of Qatar on the grounds of accusing them of financing terrorist groups and meddling in the affairs of neighboring countries.

During the meeting, the foreign ministers discussed topics on the agenda of the preparatory session, including the report of the General Secretariat on what has been implemented regarding the decisions of the Supreme Council and the Ministerial Council, and what has been achieved in the framework of achieving integration and cooperation in the course of joint Gulf action, in addition to reports and recommendations submitted by the competent councils, ministerial committees and the General Secretariat in preparation for their submission to the fortieth session for guidance in this regard

The Gulf Summit will discuss a number of issues in various political, defense, security, economic, and social fields, as well as presenting regional and international political developments and the reflection of the security conditions in the region on the GCC states.
