Yemen is considered one of the worst countries that suffer from instability and insecurity in the last two years at least, even if the reports and international bodies did not devote large pages to this suffering.

However, this does not prevent all Yemeni parties from disclosing that the country is in an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe due to the intransigence of the Houthi terrorist militia and its failure to provide any opportunity for peaceful coexistence.

According to estimates and annual reports of the United Nations and the UNHCR, the number of displaced people around the world exceeds the barrier of 70 million people, meaning that displacement, according to the annual Global Trends report, has doubled in the last 20 years.

Adrian Edwards wrote in Geneva about the displaced on June 19, 2019: “Once again, wars, violence and persecution are pushing record numbers of people out of their homes all over the world, according to the latest annual study released today by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

In detail, the annual report issued by global trends indicated in detail that the number of forced displacement reached the barrier of 70.8 million children, women and men by the end of 2018, stressing that it is the highest level witnessed by the Commission in 70 years since its founding.

According to what the UNHCR published on its Twitter page, this number is twice that of registered people 20 years ago, an increase of 2.3 million over last year, which is greater than the population of Thailand.

The report expressed concern about these numbers, considering that they may be incorrect and estimated, in the sense that there are more numbers.

He based this on the "Venezuela" crisis, whose numbers are partly reflected in the general total, as there are about 4 million Venezuelans who have left their country, which makes it to the top of the list of the highest country in which displacement occurred in recent days.

The report reported numerous stories of families who had been displaced to Brazil and other countries due to the worsening political and economic crisis and human rights.

Many migrants or displaced people have explained their departure due to a lack of medicines and doctors, which leads to the death of children every day.

The UNHCR adds that, although the majority of these people need international refugee protection, to this day only half a million people have taken the step to apply for formal asylum.

The report notes, in this regard, that the number of increase in these numbers, according to Filippo Grandi, the High Commissioner, confirms the increasing trend in the number of people seeking safety as a result of wars and conflicts.

Grandi adds that although the language surrounding refugees and migrants is often divisive, it is not all bleak, pointing to the major role in the issue of generosity and solidarity, especially on the part of societies hosting large numbers of refugees.

In the same context, he stressed that there is unprecedented participation by new actors, in the field of development, private companies, and individuals, which not only reflects the spirit of the Global Compact on Refugees, but also works to achieve it, he said.

He concluded by saying that he should build on these positive examples, and redouble efforts in solidarity with the thousands of innocent people who are forced to flee their homes every day.

The report pointed to the pursuit of the Global Compact ratified by the United Nations General Assembly, to share more equitable responsibility for hosting and supporting refugees, indicating that 80% of these refugees live in countries neighboring their home country.

He also stated that, among the 70.

8 million people identified in the Global Trends report, there are three main groups, the most important of which are refugees, and they are known to be people who have been forced to flee their countries due to conflict, wars or persecution.

It determined that in 2018 the number of refugees totaled 25.9 million people worldwide, an increase of 500,000 over 2017.

This number includes the 5.5 million Palestinian refugees who fall under the mandate of UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

Overall, the report confirms that there are about 13.6 million people newly displaced, which is equivalent to the population of Tokyo, and more than the population of Moscow and Manila.  The total included 10.8 million displaced people and 2.8 million refugees and asylum seekers.

The report concluded that the best solution for refugees is to be able to return to their homes voluntarily, in safety and dignity, and it is also a dream for many Syrians, for example; if not, return would constitute an obstacle due to the ongoing conflict, and the lack of work opportunities, medicines and food.
