Aden, NewsYemen:

More than half of Yemen's population face food insecurity, and 5 million people are one step away from famine, said Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General.

Dujarric said, during a press conference held at the UN headquarters in New York, on Saturday, that "the conflict continues unabated in Yemen, including the city of Marib, where violence has displaced more than 22,000 people since early February."

He also noted that "Yemen's economy has collapsed, as the value of its currency fell to record levels earlier this month, which means that more people will not be able to afford food and basic goods."

He continued, "Without additional and flexible funding for our humanitarian response plan in Yemen, we will face a funding slope, and millions of people will see a reduction in the life-saving assistance they desperately need."
