Sana'a, NewsYemen, private:

Sources in the Tax Authority, which is under the control of the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, revealed that the amount of money collected by the militias from taxes has doubled from previous years.

The sources told NewsYemen that the total amount of money collected by the tax authority, which is run by militias in the capital, Sanaa, exceeds sixty billion riyals per month, which is double the amount that the militias collected from taxes during the past years.

The value of the tax funds of senior taxpayers collected by the Tax Authority under the control of the Houthi militia increased from (20) billion riyals, equivalent to (40) million dollars per month in 2019, to more than (40) billion riyals per month, which is equivalent to more than (  66) million dollars per month, while the value of other tax funds increased to more than twenty billion riyals, an increase of double from previous years.

The sources attributed the increase in the value of the tax money collected by the militias to their intentional increase in the percentage of tax collected, whether from senior taxpayers or from the rest of the other tax bases, by more than 100% on some taxpayers or institutions.

According to the sources, the militia leaders refuse to supply these funds to the interest’s accounts in the Central Bank in Sana’a and insist on transferring them to unknown accounts or transferring them to investments for the militias and their leaders in several areas, most notably the purchase of land and real estate and the establishment of investments in the field of hospitals, schools and universities, while part of it goes to  Under the name of supporting the war effort.

This comes at a time when the militias continue to evade handing over employees’ salaries in the capital, Sana’a, and the rest of their areas of control, on the pretext that there are insufficient financial revenues for this, and the legitimate government is demanding that the employees’ salaries be paid under the pretext of transferring them to the Central Bank of Aden.
