Aden, NewsYemen:

The United Nations envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, welcomed, on Monday, the first commercial flight from Sanaa International Airport to Jordan, in 6 years, as part of the armistice agreement.

In a statement, Grundberg expressed his gratitude to Jordan for its invaluable support and the Yemeni government's constructive cooperation in running the flight.

"I would like to congratulate all Yemenis on this important and long-awaited step, which I hope will provide some relief to Yemenis who need medical treatment abroad, or who are seeking educational and employment opportunities, or to be reunited with their loved ones," the international envoy said.

He continued, "This is the time to come together and do more to start repairing what the war has broken, implement all the truce commitments to build confidence, and move towards resuming a political process to end the conflict in a sustainable manner."

He pointed out that intensive efforts are being made to support the parties in fulfilling all the commitments they made when they agreed on the armistice.

Grundberg considered that "these commitments are essentially a promise to Yemeni women and men of greater security, better access to basic goods and services, and improved freedom of movement within, to and from Yemen."

He stressed that progress towards opening roads in Taiz is essential to fulfilling this promise.

The UN envoy urged "the parties to fulfill their obligations, including meeting urgently to agree to open roads in Taiz and other governorates in Yemen in accordance with the terms of the armistice agreement."
