The Houthi militia raised zakat al-fitr "self" this year to 700 riyals, an increase of 40 percent over last year, and 1,400% over 2014.
The General Authority for Zakat of the Houthi militia issued a decision to raise the price of Zakat al-Fitr for the year 1443 AH by 700 riyals.
The Houthi Zakat Authority directed the executive offices and companies of the private and mixed sectors in the capital’s secretariat and all the governorates under its control, to achieve an increase in zakat resources, and to deduct Zakat al-Fitr on employees and their dependents from their salaries.
Citizens grumbled about the Houthi militia's decision, saying: "Even the zakat is raised every year, on what basis was the increase approved. A crisis and an increase in prices, and the people without salaries...! Lack of religion and reason."
In the Yemeni reality, the Houthi militia has left surprising stories and raises fear and anxiety about its continued control of state institutions.
In addition to the stories of murder and starvation, there are other stories related to the robbery and looting of funds that God has designated their banks and those who are entitled to them, which are zakat and alms funds, which were also not spared from the robbery of the militia.
In May 2018, the Houthi militia had created the "General Authority for Zakat", a parallel device to state institutions, to collect the obligatory charitable contribution, which goes to the militia's pockets without the needy.
