Widespread resentment and popular condemnation of the practices and aggression of the Yemeni Oil Company in Sanaa, which has been run by influential leaders of the Houthi militia since the group’s coup against state institutions in September 2014.
By raising the price of gasoline from 9,900 riyals to 12,600 riyals for a 20-liter can, the Houthi militia - Iran's arm in Yemen - has openly placed itself at the center of the aggression and internal siege of citizens in Sanaa and its neighboring provinces.
Activists on social networks launched disgruntled campaigns against the Houthi militia
The activist commented under the name of Bin Qahtan: "You are not qualified to lead the country, you are caves and myths people " noting that their excuses about the price of gasoline are false excuses for looting the people and stealing their rights.
Activist Adel Ghanima wrote: "The Oil Company in Sana'a has approved the price of a 20-liter of gasoline The Houthi black market exacerbates the burdens of Yemenis in the time of the armistice
Criticizing "the deception of the poor citizen" and advising the officials of the oil company in Sana'a to leave the distribution process to the merchants, and to give the merchants the opportunity to compete, buy and sell according to the world price up and down.
Activists accused the Houthi militia in the oil company of treating the citizen lightly, stressing the drop in the exchange rate and the drop in the price of oil globally, considering the justifications of the oil company lies and fallacies.
Activist Basem Al-Yamani pointed out that “during the days of the siege and the detention of gasoline ships and the dollar at 600 riyals, the price of 20 liters of gasoline was 9900, and after the siege on ships was lifted and the dollar exchange rate went down, the price of twenty liters rose to 12600..!
Commenting on the Houthi militia's comparisons with gasoline prices in Aden, Al-Yamani said: "Sana'a dollar is 540, petroleum is 12600, Aden dollar is 900 and petroleum is 11200."
Hashid Al-Dhubayani assumes that the oil company and the owners of the stations participate in the loss, and that the citizen is not the only one who is affected: “As for the transportation, the stations’ commission, and the oil company’s commission, they are all fixed and they did not participate in the fines.”
Al-Dhubayani commented on the Houthi militia’s calculating 12,600 riyals as the price of a tank of gasoline: “The price was 8,500 official, and then rose to approximately 11,200 due to the detention of ships.”
He added, asking: “Now the detention of ships has stopped, the exchange rate has decreased, and the oil price has decreased globally, so how did you calculate it as 12600?” ships and the dollar at 600 riyals, the price of 20 liters of petroleum was 9900, and after the siege on ships was lifted and the dollar exchange rate went down, the price of twenty liters rose to 12600..!
