Sana'a University has turned into a funeral parlour in recent years, from which dozens of funerals take place outside their scheduled dates, even though fates are in the hands of God Almighty.
Since 2014, after Iran’s arm in Yemen invaded the city of Sana’a and the rest of the cities, until today, nearly 120 academics from Sana’a University have died, a number that reflects the nature of the conditions the country is going through, specifically those under the control of the militia.
Statistics say that the number of deaths is distributed to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in all its departments: geology, sociology, philosophy, psychology, libraries, history, geography and archeology, with 30 professors, assistant professors, professors and head of the department.
As for the rest of the numbers, it is the share of colleges and departments, engineering, commerce, economics, accounting, Sharia, medicine, pharmacy, media, education, and agriculture.
Exorbitant fees and charges
At the beginning of this year, a group of them died under difficult circumstances at all levels, including Shehab Qassem Saeed Al-Awadi, the doctor of ear, nose and throat, and professors of chemistry, Abdul Majid Nasser Al-Seifi and Muhammad Abdul Thabet Al-Rabbasi.
In addition to Taha Ahmed Al-Faseel, Professor of Economics and Political Science, and Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Thabet Al-Gharti, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine.
The university has suffered for years from blatant interference in the affairs of students, curricula, and even research work, which are subject to heavy control by unqualified Houthi supervisors appointed for this purpose.
There were several circulars issued by the Iranian arm regarding the teaching staff and their work, students of both sexes, what clothes they should wear, and other endless instructions.
Not to mention the exaggerated fees that double from year to year regarding official fees or parallel students, which go as a war effort.
Attacks against teachers
Among the militia's actions over the past years have expelled teachers from their university residences, some of whom spent their entire lives serving students for 40 years.
Not only that, but they are expelled in a humiliating manner, deliberately humiliating them in front of their children to the extent that many of them died as a result of these reasons. In addition, some of their relatives were subjected to the same situation, the last of whom was the mother of a teacher who died after a group of armed men stormed his residence.
The most prominent of those who were expelled by the militia and their sources of housing were Professor Youssef Muhammad Abdullah, whose death anniversary passed a few days ago, and the Yemeni professor of Egyptian origin, Sayed Mustafa Salem.
The militia perpetuates sectarianism and sectarianism through curricula, appointments, disbursement of certificates to those who fight on the fronts, and attacks on male and female students' housing by armed men and the Zainabiyat teams of the Preventive Security.
Wholesale arrests
Over the course of seven years, dozens of teachers were subjected to arrests and enforced disappearances, and a large number of them were prevented from practicing the profession as a result of reports submitted by informants against them.
A number of these were suffering from complications and chronic diseases, so that they were not taken into account or provided with assistance and given an opportunity to take their own medicines, or even defend themselves despite the vigils that were carried out by faculty members, which stopped completely after the killing of former President Ali Abd God is good on the 4th of December 2017.
Today, the university has turned into something like a funeral hall for faculty members who leave life one by one almost daily without any interest from the Sana’a authorities or the payment of their overdue salaries.
