The militias began to implement the electronic system in private schools, and imposed Y.R 1000 as subscription fees in this service for each student. The school's department sent the amount of money to the Education Ministry in return of sending the tests and follow-up student through text messages to parents’ phones and also via allow access in an electronic link on Internet.

The Houthi militias seeks in this program, Smart Gateway, according a statement of a chairman of a private school in Sana'a, to know a number of students enrolled in the school then to estimate the tuition fees for each school so as to impose and raise taxes on schools.

The system allows the Houthi militias to know the number of teachers in each school, and how the school administration manages their salaries as well as how much profits schools are gotten per a year.

Private schools' principals complain of the Houthis' levies on schools which amount to millions in one academic year.

The Houthi militias seek to impose the electronic system, Smart Gateway, in public schools. The system has already been launched at Halimah School in the Capital Sana'a, allegedly for the distribution of aid to female students supported by UNICEF.

A Ministry of Education official said in a statement to Newsyemen that there is a trend to apply the smart gate system to all public schools from the next school year.

He added that the registration fee for students will be raised up to one Y.R 1,000 per a student instead of Y.R 300 as registration fee according to Yemen's Constitution, violating the free education in the country.
