The head of the Southern Transitional Council, Aidroos al-Zubaidi, said that the Riyadh agreement is a historic achievement, which will move the south to an advanced stage of political and administrative work.

This came during a meeting on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, with the UAE Special Envoy for the Kingdom of Sweden, Ambassador Peter Semneby, and the head of the EU mission to Yemen, Hans Grundberg.

Zubaidi pointed out that "southerners, led by the Transitional Council, will participate in the next stages of negotiations, to ensure their right to determine their fate and political future," according to the official website of the Council.

The meeting discussed the latest developments in Yemen after the Riyadh agreement, sponsored by Saudi Arabia, and the opportunity that the agreement formed to be a real breakthrough towards a comprehensive peace process.

It also discussed the humanitarian and development file, and stressed the need to create all the necessary facilities to address the humanitarian situation in the south and in the north alike.

The meeting stressed the need to activate the role of government institutions and fight corruption, so that the European Union and the sponsoring countries to implement relief, humanitarian and development programs.
