Aden, NewsYemen:

The British Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, confirmed that Iran is part of the problem in Yemen as it continues to support the Houthi militia, instead of helping to end the war.

Woodward said, in a statement to "Al-Sharq al-Awsat" newspaper, published on Sunday, "I believe that Iran is not contributing to helping to reach a ceasefire and to move towards a political solution to deliver aid."

She stated that the efforts of the United Nations, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and others, in recent times, have not borne fruit.

She added: "As the United Nations special envoy Martin Griffiths told us, he tried in several ways to bring the parties to the dialogue in order to agree on a ceasefire, open the ports of Hodeidah, open Sanaa airport, and find a solution for the oil tanker Safer."

The British official said, “There are a huge number of intersecting problems and it would be useful for Iran to play a constructive role, but most importantly if the Houthis agreed to a cease-fire, and distanced themselves from this ongoing violence, and from ballistic missile attacks (like the one that occurred) 10 days ago.  In Marib and the attack on a Saudi school, none of this helps to stop the fire and find a solution."
