Aden, NewsYemen:

The international organization "Save the Children" warned that the historical collapse of the value of the Yemeni riyal and the rise in food prices to record levels, will push many children into poverty and hunger.

The report stressed that many children live on bread and water with devastating effects on their health, exacerbating the ongoing hunger and malnutrition crisis and stunting their physical and mental development.

He explained that since the outbreak of the Houthi war in Yemen in 2015, the price of a month's supply of wheat flour, cooking oil, beans and sugar has increased by more than 250%, reaching 60,000 riyals in July 2021 compared to 17,000 riyals in February 2015.

The report indicated that more than 400,000 children under the age of five are one step away from starvation, while Xavier Joubert, the country director of Save the Children in Yemen, considered the horrific collapse of the economy a death sentence for children already suffering from acute malnutrition;  Pointing out that Yemeni parents cannot buy even the simplest food items for their children.

The official warned of the growing danger to children, who may be exposed to more of them in the coming months from acute malnutrition or even death.
