Seiyun, NewsYemen, Private:

Many families were confined to Hadhramaut Governorate - where fishing is the first economic source for its residents;  Because it is located on the coastal strip - to put potatoes or eggplant with rice on the most popular lunch table, coinciding with a crazy rise in fish prices in the governorate.

The price of Thamd, the main dish for most families, ranged between 7-10 thousand per kilo, without any parties interfering to end this crazy rise.  It was worth a thousand Yemeni riyals a few weeks ago.

The retail fish seller in the central fish market in Seiyun, "Abdullah Salem" told "Newsmen" that the rise in the prices of fish, including high-quality or reduced-price, which are accepted by simple people such as Zainob, Shrui and Sabari, is no longer acceptable to consumers due to its poor quality and high price.

He stressed that the establishment of special platforms for the sale of fish and the presence of a supervisory authority within the ports, outlets and fishing places in the Mukalla Sea will limit the crazy rises in prices, reduce exports and put pressure on monopolists to pump fish to the markets.

Climatic factors have prompted fish to move away from the coasts of Hadramout and head to the seas during the current period, which has had an impact on the citizen and the stock of fish preservation companies. In return, the demand for it has increased more, which led to a doubling of its price in the markets, according to the fisherman, "Raed Al-Tawari".

Al-Tawari called for the necessity of regulating the internal market and controlling the exit pathways for the fish transport portfolios and avoiding exporting them abroad without the need for brokers to intervene until the local market is sufficient and at a lower cost.

Zain Ahmed Zain believed that the increase in fish prices is due to the law of supply and demand, which is the main reason behind this increase and speculation in prices by intermediaries between fishermen, consumers and exporters abroad through the Sultanate of Oman or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He told NewsYemen, "Despite the abundance of fish production, the high costs of snow, transportation and fuel costs, and the disparity in currency exchange also burdens the fishermen without any control or government action."

As usual, every morning, the retailer, Karama Hobeish, waits in his mobile cart for the entry of fish transport containers to carry on board various types of whales for his sustenance during the day in retail sales in one of the streets of Seiyun city to meet the needs of his family in light of the increasing costs, but he returns on his way loaded  With a few kilos of fish, because the prices do not bode well for an increase in demand for it, and perhaps one of the passers-by will buy it, even at its high price.

Hebeish stated to NewsYemen that the increasing price of basic foodstuffs prompted him to work in selling fish for its cheap price and reasonable profit a day months ago;  Today, however, the situation has gone from bad to worse due to the weak consumer appetite to buy fish and replace it with chicken or other food supplements.

In addition, "Nasser Baghas" considered the increase in fish prices as a result of the neglect of the local authority in the governorate and the failure to carry out its tasks and responsibility to preserve the fish wealth, adding that the temptations of foreign intervention to export outside the governorate at fantastic prices made the fishermen refrain from selling at low prices in the local market and did not satisfy the acceptance of the buying citizen  Except forcibly to find what is added to the food and its necessary supplements.

Nasser Karameh warned against the continued rise in the sale of fish and its conversion to a price close to the prices of red meat if the state remained watching and stood idly by from the random export process and the lack of monitoring of the local market and the process of buying and selling wholesale or retail, stressing that "traders have become at the present time not  They have nothing but oppression and abuse of citizens and their search for financial gains, even at the expense of the people of the country, without any conscience deterring them from carrying out the export process and selling at fantastic prices.

Recently, social media pioneers called for a boycott of fish;  As a reaction to its rise in the markets in order to pressure the monopolists and push them to retreat from this increase.
