Mocha, NewsYemen, private:

Over the course of an hour and a half, a group of health workers traveled about 30 km from the center of the city of Mocha towards the village of Shazlya, located in the wide countryside, while the melodies of music emanating from the recording device of the vehicle carrying them, eased the hardship of the distance they travel daily.

Despite the long distance and distance, it was a leisure travel trip that begins with the dawn of each day, before starting to treat patients coming from several rural villages.

The Shazliya Center was not operational until recently as it had been closed for years, but the efforts of the Director of the Health Office, Dr. Samiha Jamil, resulted in patients in those areas receiving the care they needed closely.

When the team arrived at that center, the crowds of patients coming from different villages were spread over several rooms, waiting for their turn in treatment.

The number of patients received by the center ranges between forty to sixty patients, which is a large number compared to the medical team consisting of 9 people, including one attending physician.

Most of the patients are children suffering from fevers, diarrhea and severe malnutrition, with their numbers reaching about sixty children.

Assistant doctor Mujib Abdo Abdullah says that the lack of understanding of the proper nutrition of children is a reason for their illness, a diagnosis that his colleagues working with him at that center agree with.

But the people of the region see another reason, which is that poverty is the main reason for their children to suffer from malnutrition, as fruits are completely absent on their tables, and they taste meat twice a year during the celebration of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, while fish need to be brought from markets far from them.

Ahmed al-Qurashi, a resident of that rural town, says that their three diets are devoid of important nutrients, which is a major reason why children have lean bodies.

 Humanity Ambassadors

Dozens of health assistants and doctors work in a number of health facilities that have reopened in rural areas of Mocha, and they serve as wellness ambassadors for the people of rural towns who are unable to move to the district center.

In the opinion of the people, the operation of health units and centers relieved them of many financial burdens, and allowed them to obtain close medical care.
