Despite the annual reminder of World Press Day, which falls on May 3, and international laws adhering to freedom of the press, the terrorist Houthi militia, Iran's arm in Yemen, continues its violations and targeting of Yemeni journalists for the ninth consecutive year of war.

The pioneers of Yemeni communication called on the international and international community to take a serious stance towards the crimes of Iran's arm against journalists and media professionals, which claimed the lives of dozens of them, including a target and a kidnapper, until it reached the level of public death sentences on malicious fabricated charges.

Al-Houthi's hostility to the voice of truth began early from a public incitement that came in a speech he delivered in early September 2015, at the beginning of the war, in which he said: "There are those among the media professionals who are more dangerous to this country than traitors and security mercenaries."

This incitement was the starting point for a comprehensive targeting and orders to kill, kidnap and imprison journalists who exposed the crimes of the militia and documented their abuse of Yemenis on the civil or military level.

Houthi targets the voice of truth

In December 2016, Iran's arm assassinated journalist Muhammad al-Absi by poisoning him, as al-Absi was at that time working on a journalistic investigation about militia leaders owning giant oil companies through which oil is imported, and how the huge sums earned by the companies represented a huge resource for those leaders and people whose names were mentioned on the international sanctions list

On December 3, 2017, the terrorist Houthi militia stormed the building of the “Yemen Al-Youm” channel and newspaper and arrested its employees. After that, the Iranian-backed militia tightened its control over the visual and print media, arrested and assassinated a number of journalists, closed newspapers and websites, and practiced a policy of terrorism against journalists residing in the regions. its control.

Iran's arm exacerbated its targeting of journalists, reaching its climax by targeting a female journalist, her fetus, and her husband in Aden, by booby-trapping their car, the known targeting methods for this militia in early November 2021.

Journalist Mahmoud Al-Atmi was one of the most active media professionals in Al-Hodeidah Governorate, who were displaced in Aden. He was attacked by Houthis, which resulted in the death of Al-Atmi's wife, Rasha, and her fetus, and her husband was severely injured. Their car was targeted with an explosive device placed under the gas tank in the car to kill as many people as possible in its vicinity during the explosion.

Al-Atmi was targeted the second after the assassination of journalist Ziyad Al-Sharabi, who was martyred in a motorcycle bombing in Al-Mokha, in early 2019, who was a montage technician for Abu Dhabi Channel, when an explosive device exploded in the market of Al-Mokha city, which also led to the injury of journalist Faisal Al-Dhubhani, correspondent for Abu Dhabi Channel in Yemen.

These incidents were followed by the assassination of journalist Saber, who was born in Hodeidah, with an explosive device planted in his car as well.

Yemen ranks 169th in the Press Freedom Index, as one of the most dangerous countries for press freedoms, and is ranked as one of the worst media work environments around the world.

The massacres perpetrated by Iran's arm on the press, journalists, and the media were the most prominent sign of this group's backward, exclusionary, and defeated project from the first moment, amid international support and silence.
