The consultative meeting, sponsored by the Southern Transitional Council, aims to strengthen the southern arena and mobilize political forces and components within a common ground, which provides an opportunity to bridge views and formulate a joint southern vision capable of absorbing the benefits and challenges of this stage.

In this context, Mansour Saleh, deputy head of the media department in the Southern Transitional Council, said, "The consultative meeting in Aden aims to bring together the southern ranks, bring together points of view, and formulate a unified southern vision to face the entitlements and challenges of the next stage."

Saleh indicated, in his speech to “Sputnik”, that the consultative meeting of the southern components comes “as a result of a long series of meetings held by the internal and external southern dialogue teams, which were formed by the decision of the President of the Council in May of the year 2021, and then it was reconstituted again in August. August 2022, which are the meetings that included the various southern components and personalities at home and abroad.

He pointed out that the meeting, which was launched at the invitation of the southern internal national dialogue team, and extends from May 4 to May 7 of the same month, "includes a wide spectrum of political figures and representatives of southern political and societal parties and components."

He stated that the meeting aims to "bring together points of view to come out with a unified southern vision on the nature and shape of the next southern state, and to find a common ground for the upcoming southern political action from which everyone will start, in line with the entitlements and challenges of the next stage, as well as coming up with a charter for southern national action that will be agreed upon at the conclusion of the meeting."

While the consultative meeting embodies a model for the process of peaceful construction in a common environment, observers believe that this process will work to enhance the presence of the southern issue in the peace processes in Yemen, in a way that imposes on the local and regional parties a just solution that the southerners accept for their cause.

In this context, the director of the South 24 Center for Studies in Aden, Yacoub Al-Sufiani, considered "the announcement of the southern consultative meeting in the capital, Aden, between the southern political, civil, societal and tribal parties and components, a very advanced step." described limit.

Al-Sufyani stated, in the context of his interview with "Newsyemen", that "the credit for this step goes largely to the Transitional Council, specifically the internal and external dialogue committees that were formed in August of last year according to the decision of the President of the Southern Transitional Council, Major General Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi."

He said, "The committees met with various southern parties, individuals, entities, and spectra at home and abroad, as part of a plan to bring points of view closer, unify ranks and strengthen southern cohesion, for the sake of the common goal that unites most southerners, which is victory for the cause of the people of the south, by restoring the state that the southerners lost in 1990.

While Al-Sufyani believes that holding the consultative meeting is an advanced step, he believes that it is not only in the interest of the south, as he considered it a rare and unique step in Yemen in general.

He added, "The model of the southern consultative meeting may help consolidate the culture of dialogue, and promote ways to solve problems through peaceful means away from violence, and this may open paths of dialogue with the various parties in Yemen." as he put it.

He pointed out that "the issue of the people of the south, which is represented by the Southern Transitional Council at the present time, will be more present at the negotiating tables, whether between the parties of the Presidential Council or the parties of the legitimate government, or even with the Houthis in the north."

He continued, "The international community will be more aware of the importance of this issue and its centrality in any negotiations for a solution, and in any plan for a solution, in the event that there is a plan that searches for sustainable peace, and does not seek to postpone or transfer problems and establish cycles of violent conflict in Yemen."

He added, "These meetings will enhance the presence of the southern issue on the negotiation tables for a comprehensive political solution, and will impose on the regional and international community and local parties a just solution to this issue in a way that satisfies the southerners and in a manner appropriate to their aspirations and sacrifices that they have made over the course of three decades."

He concluded: "These meetings will present the southern issue in its true form and will impose on the parties a just solution befitting the sacrifices of the southerners that they made since 1990, and until today in terms of martyrs and wounded, and what happened to the land and people during this period, and therefore the consultative meeting is considered a very important step at the time the present.”
