The capital, Sanaa, and the areas controlled by the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, are witnessing these days an intense campaign to collect donations from citizens to support the so-called war effort, as part of the militia’s policy of plundering citizens ’funds by intimidation and enticement and exploiting their special occasions to do so.

Local sources in the capital, Sanaa, told Newsyemen , that the Houthi militia, through districts leaders, who distribute gas cylinders to citizens, distributed special conditions on which the names of the citizens include their invitation to participate in the donation for the war effort within what they call the preparation of popular convoys to support the fronts in conjunction with their celebration of the day of their coup against the legitimacy on September 21 of every year.

The sources added: The district leaders informed citizens of the need to donate money to those circumstances and return it to them before September 21, unless any citizen who fails to donate will be deprived of receiving the gas cylinder and will be added to the blacklist as a suspect and loyal to the coalition countries .

According to the sources, some neighborhood leaders imposed a sum of one thousand riyals on each citizen as a compulsory donation to be added to the price of the gas cylinder, while some other districts leaders left the freedom to citizens to donate the amount they want.

The envelope that was distributed to the citizens includes an invitation for them to donate to the envelope and write the number of the amount outside the envelope on which the citizen’s name is written by the district leader neighborhood who is responsible for collecting the donations.

The process of distributing the envelopes for collecting donations is accompanied by campaigns carried out by preachers of mosques and private radio stations affiliated with the militias to invite people and urge them to donate to equip the popular convoys as they call it to support the fronts and issue fatwas that this is a kind of religious jihad that is required of every citizen.

The Houthi militia uses its own occasions to practice organized looting of people under the name of collecting donations and exploiting the provision of some services, such as distributing gas, to pressure them to obtain donations from them through intimidation.
