Enhanced security

Despite the security challenges in particular and Shabwa, especially from the trio of evil and terrorism, the province is moving towards a new phase of unprecedented security stability.

During the past few days, the first qualified batches graduated as part of the initiative to upgrade the security and police corps in Shabwa Governorate, which is being implemented for two years with generous support from the United Arab Emirates.

The initiative is focused on three axes: the first is concerned with modernizing the infrastructure of security buildings. The second axis is concerned with the equipment and supplies necessary to carry out its role. While the third axis focuses on manpower through qualifying individuals and officers with security skills and capabilities that enable them to perform their duty entrusted with consolidating security, combating crime, and confronting chaos and terrorism.

The UAE has previously adopted similar initiatives to support the security sector in several liberated governorates, and these fraternal efforts have contributed to the recovery of the security sector and the restoration of its important role in maintaining security and stability and normalizing conditions.

The general supervisor of the Emirati initiative, Major General Ahmed Al Muhairi, confirmed that the training program began three months ago, under the directives of the supreme leadership of the UAE, adding that the program comes at specific time intervals in order to strengthen the security system and raise its level of readiness and efficiency, indicating that it will be a tributary to establishing security across the province.

In turn, the Director of Shabwa Police, Brigadier General Fouad Al-Nasi, thanked the UAE for its role in strengthening the role of security in Shabwa, by supporting and training the police, in addition to rehabilitating police headquarters and providing them with the required equipment and mechanisms.

Health recovery

In parallel with the security aspect, Shabwa has enjoyed a series of development projects in several service and vital sectors, the latest of which is the health sector, which is witnessing great development in light of the generous support provided by the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works, which is represented in the rehabilitation, maintenance and modernization of 16 hospitals and health facilities in Ataq and the rest of governorate directorates.

These projects come within the framework of the UAE's efforts to support the revitalization of the health sector, the modernization of medical services provided to patients, and the alleviation of their suffering in obtaining integrated health care.

Water supply

The water sector has received great attention by adopting projects to dig artesian wells in several areas deprived of service, as well as rehabilitating dams and irrigation canals.

Recently, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority inaugurated a project to deliver clean water to the residents of the village of Al-Jariba in Marra, north of Ataq, whose residents have been deprived of access to water for years.

The delivery of water to the area contributed to alleviating the suffering of the residents, especially children, who incur the hardship of going to a distance of more than 4 kilometers in order to fill simple liters of clean water.

The Director General of the Rural Water Office in the governorate, Eng. Marwan Muhammad Barwis, explained that the Al-Juraibeh water project is one of the life-saving projects, and it is part of a package of development projects being implemented with the support of brothers in the UAE in the interest of reviving the water sector and delivering service to disadvantaged and affected areas.

He added that the Emirates Red Crescent Authority has been keen, since the beginning of its development and relief interventions, to touch the needs of the deputed and disadvantaged areas and provide them with the simplest services and assistance that alleviate the suffering of the people living in those areas.

The UAE opened the year 2023 by signing the financing of a maintenance project for 21 water facilities in Shabwa, as part of its good endeavors to develop its various sectors, according to the needs and requirements of citizens.

These efforts come to achieve the goal of solving the problem of providing drinking water to the people of the governorate, and reviving the agricultural sector, which suffers from water scarcity.

Electricity insurance

The Emirati efforts did not exclude the electricity sector from the package of development projects it adopted in order to enhance stability and upgrade basic services affected by the war and the deteriorating situation. The UAE has adopted the implementation of a project to establish a solar power plant with a generation capacity of up to 60 megawatts.

According to officials in the local authority, an engineering team from the UAE will arrive soon to start implementing a study of establishing an electric station powered by solar energy. As this project represents a great addition to the electricity sector, which is facing a generation deficit in light of the deterioration of stations and the constant depletion of fuel.
