The UAE's role in the south... building, development and strategic partnership
English - Wednesday 26 July 2023 الساعة 04:53 pmDay after day, the United Arab Emirates strengthens its partnership with the southern governorates, which it militarily contributed to liberating from the terrorist Houthi militia, Iran's arm in Yemen, and implemented many rehabilitation and development projects in it that affected various sectors, on top of which are health, education, electricity, water and roads.
After the liberation, the UAE contributed to rebuilding the security system in the capital, Aden, and the liberated areas, and rehabilitating and training hundreds of employees of military and governmental institutions, in addition to humanitarian projects represented in distributing food aid, sacrifices, and clothing.
Despite the media attacks on the UAE by Yemeni government officials loyal to the Islah Party, the local branch of the terrorist Brotherhood, its development role did not stop, but rather escalated during the past years in the southern governorates, targeting vital sectors that were absent from government solutions and solutions.
These sectors included electricity, agriculture, water and health, where the value of the recovery and reconstruction projects funded by the UAE amounted to $325 million.
The governorates of Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Al-Dhalea, Shabwa, Hadramout, Al-Mahra and Socotra benefited from the UAE development projects that contributed to reviving these sectors and enabling them to serve the community.
Among the most important strategic projects that the UAE is currently implementing in the south is the 120-megawatt solar power plant being implemented in Aden, the Hassan Dam construction project at a cost of $78 million funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, as well as two gas-powered power plant projects with a generating capacity of 150 megawatts. And the construction of a gasoline refinery with a capacity of (20) thousand barrels in Hadramout, in addition to a project to fully revive and develop the health system in Shabwa Governorate. In its first phase, it included the rehabilitation, restoration and equipment of 4 main pivotal hospitals in the governorate, while the second phase targets 12 health centers in various districts.
The UAE is also continuing to implement the Mother of the Nation Hospital for Motherhood and Childhood project in the Socotra archipelago, funded by the Emirates Red Crescent Authority. An infant intensive care room, three admission rooms, doctors’ residence, administrative offices, a drug store, a pharmacy, a laboratory with all its departments, and offices for the hospital’s administrative staff.
These projects represent an extension of other projects whose implementation has been completed, and the people of the targeted governorates benefit from their services.
