Houthi militias kidnap Sudanese academic in Sana'a

The Houthi militias kidnapped a faculty member at Sana'a University and one of the Sudanese academics in Yemen al-Hadi Hasan Othman, Erem News newspaper reported.

Local sources said that Othman was kidnapped at his house this week on the back of his public criticism of the corruption practiced by the Houthi group at the University of Sana'a.

The sources added that the Sudanese academic has been since last Tuesday at the political investigation department's prison in Sana'a.

The Sudanese academic suffers from several disease, including blood pressure and diabetes.

Othman was recruited from Sudan to teach at the University of Sana'a, specializing in Islamic studies, in the early 1980s, and settled in Yemen with his family ever since.
