Al-Jawf, NewsYemen:

The imposition of duties and royalties on merchants by the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, sparked clashes with firearms between members of the militia and a number of merchants in the Al-Matoun District, west of Al-Jawf Governorate.

Local sources said that elements of the Houthi militia, led by Supervisor Muhammad Ahmad Saif, imposed large financial levies under the justification of supporting the activities of the Prophet’s birthday on the merchants of the Monday Market, the second largest central market that combines several directorates.

The sources indicated that during the passage of militia members to merchants to collect taxes, a number of merchants refused to pay any sums of money, which led to verbal quarrels that developed into clashes between a merchant and the militia.

The sources indicated that market merchants called for the location of the clashes and expelled the supervisor of the Houthi militia and its members from the market, refusing to pay any financial levies.
