Aden, Newsyemen:

Last Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed the exchange of more than 1,000 prisoners and abductees between government forces and the Houthi group.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said, in a statement, that Moscow sees in this process, which included more than a thousand people, "an assertion of the ability of the Yemeni conflicting parties to find consensual solutions that are extremely important to end the chronic crisis, and even to implement these solutions on the practical level."

The statement added that Moscow hopes that the two parties will soon take subsequent steps aimed at "restoring confidence and reforming the critical social and economic conditions," stressing the importance of implementing all the provisions of the Stockholm Agreement from December 13, 2018, including the withdrawal of forces from the port of Hodeidah and easing tension in the vicinity of Taiz, the third largest city in Yemen.

The ministry added that Moscow is counting on that these positive changes contribute to stopping the escalation of the Yemeni crisis and progress towards ending hostilities in the country permanently and launching a peaceful settlement in Yemen under the auspices of the United Nations, "on the basis of taking into account the legitimate interests and concerns" of all Yemeni political forces and religious and regional components, for the people of the country.

The statement concluded by affirming Russia's commitment to help achieve these goals through its communication with "all parties involved and concerned."
