Griffiths: Yemenis deserve better than life in an endless war

The UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths called on the Yemeni parties to reduce the escalation of violence and renew their commitment to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
This came in a brief statement issued last night, and it is his third statement in a week.
Griffiths said in the statement: "For more than a year, the parties to the conflict in Yemen have made a pledge to themselves before the Yemeni people by keeping Hodeidah safe, by using port revenues to pay salaries, and by returning detainees to their families and loved ones."
He added: "The parties to the conflict must fulfill those promises and build an environment conducive to the peace process."
The international envoy stressed that "the parties in Yemen must reduce the escalation of violence and renew their commitment to finding a peaceful solution to the conflict."
"The Yemenis deserve better than life in the shadow of an endless war," he concluded.
