Shabwa, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

Sources in the local authority in Shabwa confirmed that the revenues from collecting qat taxes in the governorate amount to 18 million riyals per day, confirming that these funds are not supplied to the Central Bank.

The sources told "NewsYemen" that the leadership of the local authority loyal to the Islah party, the local branch of the Brotherhood organization, is seizing millions of riyals a day from qat taxes.

Sources indicated that these amounts collected daily from the khat tax go to the pockets of the governor of the province, Muhammad Saleh bin Adiou, and influential officials who are loyal to the group.

Earlier, the Brotherhood governor, Ibn Adiou, directed the building of a central qat market in Shabwa, at a cost of $600,000, by direct order and without making an official tender.

However, the sources confirmed that the actual costs of establishing the market did not exceed a third of the amount (200 thousand dollars), stressing that the market project was a cover for a large corruption operation in which the governor was involved.

The sources were surprised that the Governor of Shabwa did not support the health centers and the isolation center in the governorate that suffers from an outbreak of the Coronavirus, noting that hospitals launched fundraising campaigns to buy oxygen cylinders for patients.

Shabwa governorate has been experiencing a state of administrative corruption since the Brotherhood authorities took control of Shabwa governorate in August 2019.
